While I began pondering on how I was going to do my project, I realized that there was one huge component that I hadn't even given any thought to: the Creative Critical Reflection. I think this is the aspect of the Portfolio that I am most anxious about. I don't mind the reflection part: the four reflection questions should be simple enough. It's the different forms of expressing the answer to those questions that is stressing me out. The CCR is like a whole separate project in itself.
But instead of stressing over this, I decided I should make a plan for the reflection. This way, if any of the different formats require me to have content from throughout the process (like the Directors Commentary) then I am ready to start working on them.
There are 4 questions:
- How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
- How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
- How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
- How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware and online — in this project?
I have begun to plan on which media form I will use to answer each questions. So far, I have decided I will use a presentation with a voiceover for the first question. I believe this format is the best suited for the first question because I will easily be able to display my information on a presentation, and I can also use visually appealing graphics to make the presentation even more interesting.
I believe I can use a podcast for the 2nd question, because I will be able to explain the content well using my voice, and the information that will be explained won't need backing visuals.
I want to use something like a Directors Commentary for the third question because I think it would be perfect to display my growth throughout the project. However, I'm not sure how I will be able to accomplish that because I'm doing a magazine and not a film opening. I was thinking about doing a time lapse of me creating the project with commentary explaining how I learned and developed, but I would first have to get advice from my teacher on how that would work.
For the fourth question, I'm not sure exactly what I want to do. The way our teacher presented the information on the CCR was through a slideshow where she provided some examples of different media formats that we could use.
I've already thought of ways to use the presentation with voiceover, the podcast, and a variation of the directors commentary. I guess I could do a video essay for the fourth question, but I do want to search for some other unique formats. I will ask my teacher for advice on this when I see her next class.
For now, I will leave it at this. I will give further thought to this plan before doing research on how to prepare for each different format. Obviously I will need to finish my magazine itself before starting to work on this, but now that I have given it some thought, I think I am a little bit less anxious about the CCR.
On a separate and completely unrelated note, it is my birthday today 🥳! Happy birthday to me, and best of luck to me on this project and on my 16th year of living!
Thanks so much for tuning in, catch you later!
